We should have handled the matter with a statement saying “we heard with interest the PM’s remarks. But we don’t comment on other countries’ internal matters, nor on debates in foreign Parliaments, & urge everyone to follow the same principle.” Far more effective &less offensive.
Given the talent in India (scientific, managerial) & given how well Indians are doing outside—in USA & Europe, the reason India’s economy is faltering, with poverty & youth unemployment rising, is the political climate of hate & mistrust. Change that & India will surge ahead.
Feminist history shows both individual narratives and data on biases are important when dealing with issues that hv long remained out of public discourse. The stories alone help build human perspectives in a society that the academic data clearly supports.
