India represents an aspiration for freedom, peace, and diversity; China is the opposite

Sri Aurobindo was never interested in huge statues, grandiose projects or big institutions in his name; he just wanted a new better world to emerge from the present chaos, writes ๐—–๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ฑ๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฟ๐—ฝ๐—ถ
Not to merely trod roads of the past does the soul manifest over and over. In each life it seeks to uncover its own infinity of relations with the Divine. What Hinduism gets absolutely right is this personal infinite equation with the Divine, the mullah/padre will not get it.

This is Krishna alludes to when He says better one’s own dharma than dharma of another. #SriAurobindo makes it even more clear, “better to wander under call of soul..”. A little painting done, a scribble on paper, a poetic line..offered truly is as effective as any ritual

While we have sophistry/sophisticated debates on merit-equality-caste, Korea/China/SG r not giving our kids any qtr on brutal merit. The loss is entirely india's and India's kids' - a handful of jobless social science grandees dont get it, obviously...

Year 1869. The great scholar-statesman Shri Surendranath Banerjea is critiquing a historical paper written by Shri Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, "The Origins of Hindu Festivals". Vande Mataram and Anandamath are to be written more than a decade later.

Men and women coexist in the real world. They live, love, share homes together. Activism protecting one cannot be hostile to the other to be practically useful. Justice, not revenge. Not looking even remotely likely. And there is an epidemic of loneliness too.
Activism truly needs a philosophical renaissance. Much reactive, hostile targeting and denial of rights or basic humanity goes on in the name of protecting people - and it does little to protect those it claims to protect. Every single law can be misused. Fight misuse, not law! twitter.com/nuts2406/
#Opinion | "While governments continue to focus on building planned housing for the rich & the middle class, and relocation of slum clusters, unauthorised colonies, which are somewhere in between, are ignored," write Aditya Ajith and Ritu Kataria.

We do not discuss this enough: the culture, not just of quiescence but compulsory guild-formation, compulsory networking & obligatory mutual protection. Solidarity is a wonderful thing--but not in unconditional & uncritical way that only shores up power at expense of vulnerable
The simple fact is you do not ascend star rank status with accompanying money, berth & perks by being willing to be principled & breaking out of protection rackets.

Conversely, perhaps even more relevantly, rewards for closing ranks are also high.
Compulsory rank-closing also has deleterious intellectual consequences, not least because of a system of rewarding conformity, including conformity to faux radicalism.
No Jain in Ahmedabad goes to road-side eatery to consume Non-veg, its a propaganda by few like n his team of Lutyens, yes Hindus do consume non-veg but they Patel’s n Thakore / OBC’s. Brahmins, Vaishnav’s, Swaminarayan n Jains of Gujarat are still vegetarian
Narmada flows between marble rocks at Bhedaghat. She reminds me of a beautiful song by Gulzar Ek nadi thi dono kinaare tham ke behti thi, ek nadi thi...azaad thi jab jharne ki tarah, chattano pe behti thi... makes me wonder, are women like rivers? #Photos #Throwback #memories
Home is an overrated concept. People like me, like us, from lower-middle class & middle-class houses are migrants. We leave behind homes, parents, in search of new life. And most part of the new life is spent in guilt... for we've left behind homes, parents #home #thoughts #mood
Let’s consider a theoretical scenario where somebody insists that their religion requires them to wear no clothes at all, and that’s how they want to attend college. Will that be allowed?
Not the other way? Hijab not only otherises those not wearing it but also signals "modesty". The inherent signalling is that girls or women not wearing Hijab are immodest. Poisoning young minds with such filth is a thing no school should ever do.
Imagine if Hindu girls insisted on coming to schools in Purdah in this day and time. Criticism of Hindu religion and Hindu society would have filled op-ed pages and Anchors like him would be screaming misogyny, oppression and religious conditioning.
Absolutely. Association with symbols of any other religion is faulty. Any symbol has to be seen in the context of what it signifies

Early Modern history was a transformative period in history—an era that saw the bloodshed of the Reformation and the religious wars but also the huge advances of the scientific revolution and the Enlightenment.
Feynman was probably one of the finest minds of the 20th century along with Einstein and Ramanujan. The difference was that Feynman's grasp on social interactions exceeded that of any other scientist.
