The second is a fragment found in a notebook used by Sri Aurobindo in 1920. Evidently intended for The Future Poetry, it is closely linked to the last chapter of this book, which was published in the Arya in July 1920. One might suppose that the fragment was intended to be part of the last chapter, or that it is the beginning of a new chapter that was never completed. The subject which the fragment hints at does not seem to have been given full treatment anywhere in The Future Poetry.

Having observed various contradictions and paradoxes during the last sixty years, I am not very hopeful about the future. But what strikes me most is the prevalence of too many dramatic motifs dotting the history. Time has a penchant for such surprises and absurdities as it were.
TV sabotaged democracy. Being a powerful visual medium, theatrical element is part of its presentation but too much of importance to power and politics robbed people of their self-esteem and autonomy. The great-man syndrome of the epics replaced the egalitarian democratic spirit.
Sri Aurobindo relied upon the spiritual path for change in our present condition. His system of yoga is largely unknown but all external methods and ideologies are not going to alter or heal any crisis that humanity is grappling with. That's the biggest relevance of Sri Aurobindo.
It's interesting that when Western philosophy had thrown out ontological discussion, Ken Wilber made evolutionary philosophy popular outside the University curriculum. It was a huge revolution. Sri Aurobindo was mentioned as one of the many but the seed is sure to grow humongous.
Due to the spread of education, more and more people will come across some book or other of Sri Aurobindo and recognise his greatness on their own. That kind of encounter will have a lasting impact instead of just hype or propaganda. The books themselves will speak to the people.
It's well known that the Uttarpara speech marks a watershed moment in Sri Aurobindo's life. Yet, many are fond of quoting him from his pre-Uttarpara-speech writings for fermenting confusion and controversy. Painting a misleading picture of Sri Aurobindo has been a sport for a lot.
Some armchair commentators (with no connection whatsoever with the Army) periodically recommend inducting something called Kshatriya spirit into the civil society. They seem to be Jallikattu lovers and want people to fight among themselves. Sadly, they drag Sri Aurobindo's name.
The Mother & Sri Aurobindo were extremely reluctant to admit new entrants into the Ashram. They were not in the numbers game unlike present day gurus. They were aware of the difficult nature of their work and the intellectual stress they impose. Even today, very few get attracted.
Sri Aurobindo started writing in 1893 which continued till 1950. He had no academic competence on the subjects he chose but his treatment of the topics was superior to the experts. As regards science, he had no complaints but hastened to add that the supraphysical reality exists.
