Great article. Sri Aurobindo was one the greatest thinkers, philosophers and intellects of the 20th century. I am not sure I would put "mother" anywhere close. Based on what I've read, she steered more towards the mystical and supernatural which was unfortunate. And a lot of his ashram and Auroville are modeled on her thinking though they are named after him.

He exposed Gandhi's Machiavellian disposition in the freedom movement. Bose who suffered because of him yet offered him the highest accolade. Modi's appropriation of Gandhi, Patel & Bose is a terrible mistake. Either of SV, Tagore or Aurobindo should have the pride of place.
#MahatmaGandhi often learnt from his critics ~ changing, improving & modifying his stand time to time.
His 'so called' critics, like #NetajiSubhashChandraBose/ #BRAmbedkar reassessed their positions during Gandhi’s lifetime. Others, excluding #RSS & Sanghis, did so later. (2/N) Ok Sir, thank you. What you say may be true - I want to understand intellectually. Because that helps me to come close to Sri Aurobindo using my mind. But then it also has side-effects: I overthink ...and then lose my faith...
On this last day of the first month of a new year (amid some seriously challenging years for our world), revisiting these worthy resolutions for our daily future borrowed from worthy humans of the past
Two people both criticizing something already proves bias? What about the dozens whom I've encountered on this forum alone who defend the RSS? Who follow the same agenda to invent excuses for the RSS-BJP's follies? What's elitist about pin-pricking counterproductive "strategies"?
Aware of the good groundwork done by many RSS activists, I do see some merit to KB Hedgewar's almost century-old project. I have little quarrel with that groundwork. But I also can't fail to notice how the RSS elite takes the good energy of those millions & syphons it off.
When studying the Hindu political movement, I found RSS office-bearers were always on the move, like donkeys in a treadmill. An insider told me: "It's a status symbol with them." Their main work on the ground was locomotion. As even NS Rajaram remarked: "Motion is not action."
SR Goel was skeptical of socialism, one reason for some distance from the Jan Sangh, which in the 1960s went fully socialist under Nana Deshmukh (who coined the Vikas slogan) & AB Vajpayee. Though tolerant of Dalit reservations for now, also of the reservation principle.
You are mistaken about Goelji and myself, both diploma-certified historians. Even Talageri is not "just" a bank clerk, his type is called a "self-taught historian". And he compensates by practice what others have in diplomas.
Bose's 1st choice, the Soviet Union, had shunted him off to Germany. To him, quite correctly, Stalin & Hitler were 2 of a kind. No point in trying to distance him from either. The 1 thing that mattered to him was their instrumental value in obtaining Freedom, an honourable goal.
