Netaji and Sri Aurobindo: Claims and counterclaims over legacies
OPINION | Recognition, respect and importance of political legacies are not a simple matter of statues, holograms and flames, writes Shikha Mukerjee.
Interesting talk by Dr. Pandey on Sri Aurobindo's Savitri as the Veda of the Future (layers upon layers of meaning when one reads Savitri)
I am always amazed at the diversity of the followers of Sri Aurobindo. (I went to a very Brahmin school and hated it btw - and one reason I liked Mother initially was due to the ideas practised in the Ashram school)

The connection between Farmer & Arya is interesting. Even Sri Aurobindo also said that who was cultivated himself through Spiritual practice was an Arya.
His reading was symbolic.
The Western metaphysics and philosophy of mind is slowly becoming aware that Sri Aurobindo might have something to offer.
Sri Aurobindo considered the Veda not only to be the fount of Indian civilisation but also seminal to the world’s spirituality. The book explains the meaning and explanation of some important Vedic symbols, words, images, and concepts.

Only the first. Whatever other faults, Brits had self respect. Those who were most strident against Raj - Bose, Tilak, Aurobindo - were strong in great books of Western Culture too. Decolonized ones like Hindi lover Hind Swaraj Gandhi were worst stooges.
In 30s and 40s - New Medina was a bigger threat than Old Blighty. Almost all of them (including Bose) underestimated the former threat.

WW2 - On our eastern front, when the Brits and the Japanese were fighting, with the INA on the Japanese side, my sympathies and support would have been purely for the INA. NOT for the Indians who fought on the side of the Brits.
Why is that so hard for folks to understand?
Collective Stockholm syndrome, continuing mental slavery, thorough British brainwashing.

That is why, fearing that the fire ignited by Netaji and his INA would burn the Empire down, they handed India over to their best friends Gandhi and Nehru, and left without suffering a scratch.

75 years of India's independence, the hurly-burly of celebrations ranging from rangoli and deshbhakti geet competitions and the bevvy of birth anniversaries of great national leaders, it is noteworthy that some are greater than others....Abandon hollow worship at the feet of imposing statues or hologramsGurus and babas of all hues abound in India and Sri Aurobindo has been a victim of this syndrome. It's actually a difficulty for young people to weigh him against others to ascertain his real worth or relevance. Another narrative that goes against him is he is just an intellectual.
As my area of awareness and competence shrink with time, the only asset to latch on to is length of experience which many others might be lacking. The definition of a specialist, ironically, is also knowing more about less. Sri Aurobindo, certainly, is my lifelong field of study.
The font size of edit page lead articles is too small which makes it almost impossible for me to read. Paradoxically, a huge gap right there stares at me and mocks!
How 1905 triggered countrywide agitation is well known but it's surprising that Bengal has not achieved its unity till date. The language and culture deserve to discover own integral whole and it's not known what magnitude of energy and innovation it may engender. Bande Mataram.
I have visited most of the States in India and the feeling of being a second class citizen owing to language is common. I'm residing in West Bengal for nearly a year now but I'm ignorant of its rich literature and folk culture. Bande Mataram was addressed to the undivided Bengal.
