It is ego that makes our prose artificially difficult

D  journal Shraddha is a medley of Supramental Biriyani n Gnostic Mutton Afgani! A journal is for reading bt it is Greek! No true one writes  Auro in isolation wid others. Unable to understand DB's English his marican frnd hv asked him: D can u pl translate this into English! Ha!

An ideal journal on Sri Aurobindo shd write simple n expressive prose in the style of the Mother. It is ego that makes our prose artificially difficult. This shd be strongly criticised to bring back good sense. Shraddha wasting money coz it can't communicate Auro's words .

Who reads "Shraddha"? The contributors themselves n the Editor. Poocho kiun? It is full of technical n bombastic words n not connected with contemporary life n other great writers. The result is a wastage of money n misfire. It shd learn from Sri Aurobindo Society journals.

A journal on Sri Aurobindo shd b connected with contemporary life n d other great writers of the world. No estimate is true n complete without comparisons n contrasts. Writers must also possess a sufficient knowledge of contemporary life n literary theories n literary criticism.

D degree of awareness dat my students hv gained , partly due SA's presence in d syllabus, n chiefly due to d grt "moment", is Grace! Now I hv  to train them to suspend devotion n put SA beside the great authors of the world. Devotion shd b private; writing is a different thing.

2 extremes hv affected Sri Aurobindo Studies today -Peter's pollution of  him in a continuous ironic mode n the  obsession of nothing other than Sri Aurobindo. SA himself demanded critical research. An expansion is needed to see the value of others. That won't belittle SA.

Today while teaching Kafka to a class of postgraduates I said " Kafka, Camus n Sartre knew the crisis, but they didn't offer any solution. Sri Aurobindo knew the existential dilemma, but offered remedial techniques n tried to act them out.

Sri Aurobindo is new, unique, beyond all narrowness by virtue of his vast love for the Universe. Steeped in the scriptures, he leaves  behind  all past scriptures in his evolving Avatarhood. Grounded in a global tradition, he recreates the best of the East n the West.

His 8 prose works (1914-21) marked a revolution on multiple levels, spiritual (LD), non-sectarian exigesis (Essays on the Gita),  yoga of synthesis(Synthesis), history (HC), human harmony (IHU), Strife(WSD), deconstruction of "western  India" (Foundations), n poetry (FP).
