Ego-aggrandizement, self-delusion and arrogance

Right, that the true psychic opening is not at all easy to attain and preliminary purification is important – no disagreement there… Nothing wrong with making a bold claim, but if the primary support of yours is that some of the people violently upset by PH’s book also talk a lot about the psychic being, thus the pursuit of the psychic opening must have become dangerous, I guess I’m still looking for some additional justification.
If there are characteristic hazards on the way to the true psychic opening related to narrow and exaggerated emotion, aren’t there also characteristic hazards on the way to the true spiritual opening of the mind, e.g. self-delusion and arrogance, ego-aggrandizement, mistaking of mental formations for spiritual realities, etc.? I recall an agenda passage where Mother describes how some seekers following jnana-oriented paths build powerful mental formations that they mistake for spiritual truth, and it’s very hard to get them out of it.

Whether Westerners take chauvinistic positions or whether Easterners take devotionalist approaches doesn't change anything with regards to the Myths of an Aurobindonian Religion. Attempts to create childish fault-lines between the East and the West or between Spirituality and Religion when following the principles of Integral Yoga are sure to fail and are most laughable. Spirituality is universal and transcends the so-called boundaries of the East and the West and of one religious form or another that some people may wish to create.
On the other hand Religion is parochial and therefore needs well-demarcated boundaries to exist. Those who may feel insecure in universal spaces are therefore free to mark out their territory and live within it's confines. But nothing can stop Westerners like the Mother or Easterners like Sri Aurobindo as well those who wish to practice their Integral Yoga from transcending these artificial boundaries that some wish to create and maintain for their own limited ends. The Contribution Of Tagore And Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray
ONE of the enduring characteristics of the Bengal Renaissance was its vision of modern India.  It was profoundly influenced by the cosmopolitan outlook of Rammohun Roy, and its framework rested on science and rationality. East and West were complementary in the larger context of a united universe. Rabindranath Tagore and Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, born in the same year (1861), personified this new spirit…
Tagore and Ray differed fundamentally from this theory of two cultures. In the tradition of Rammohun, they wanted a synthesis, differentiating the oppressive colonial policy from the larger liberating canvas of the Western civilisation. This led  Tagore, like Ray, to develop a critical outlook denouncing colonialism. This was no mean achievement considering that Mahatma Gandhi was a believer in the Empire till 1920… 
Meghnad Saha and his associates, who were greatly influenced by Ray, did not agree with the Gandhian precepts, but used Ray’s standing in many of their public campaigns. The scientist who combined science with swadeshi was the legacy of Ray. This articulation of the unity of science and swadeshi proved that essentially he was closer to Tagore than Gandhi.
Like Tagore, Ray analysed the contemporary reality with a sense of history.  Both were opposed to the revivalist spirit displayed by a section of educated Hindus. By articulating composite, rational, secular and scientific nationalism, Tagore and Ray influenced our nationalist discourse immensely.
