Jeffrey Kripal praises this biography in words no less diabolic

A word about the Kripal connection. I have read what you wrote in response to Sraddhalu clearing Mr. Heehs of all charges of the JK connection based on Debashish's statement. Have you really read the book TLOSA carefully? If so then may I ask why is Mr. Heehs thanking Jeffrey Kripal and Michael Murphy in his acknowledgments if the back-cover was made after the book was complete and the manuscript submitted to the publishers and he had really no say in it. May I also ask how come in Jeffrey Kripal's previously published book on Esalen (2007) he quotes portions from Mr. Heehs' unpublished manuscripts to justify his tantric reading of Sri Aurobindo. Why was the manuscript handed over to him if they do not agree with each other? These are some of the unanswered questions whose answers may never become public due to sudden outcry in favor of Mr. Heehs. Who knows if this din and noise taking the acceptable shield of intellectual freedom is not drowning the truth.

What is also contradictory to the basic stand of Heehs and his mentors, Jeffrey Kripal and Wendy Doniger, is that they have no objection to Hinduism when it comes to Tantric sex, with which they are so comfortable. ...

  1. Tantric sexuality, homosexual Ramakrishna, schizophrenia, no supermind or immortality... These are some of the infamous allegations I have refuted. I had forwarded a first confutation, on Tantric sexuality, to be posted in “Savitri Era Open Forum”. But in spite of the “fair use” international copyright law, which allows to reproduce extracts for the purpose of rigorous research and debate, Tusar has cut off all the material I have faithfully reproduced, making the whole reading useless. It doesn’t matter if for two years the crowd has been reading hundreds of useless pages, with passages artfully cut to prove the opposite of what the author means! But if, for once, somebody takes the trouble to scan the original passages as they appear in the book, then it is exactly these that are cut off!!!
As Tusar does not allow me to reproduce excerpts from any writer (not only Peter, but also Sri Aurobindo or foremost Aurobindonians proving the point) I am willing to forward the three refutations I have written to anyone asking for, and on that basis debate. Conversely, I refuse any interaction with people who have no clue n the real contents of the book and rely on manipulations and gossip.
To clear another obsession, in his reply to Manasi Paswa (cfr. the excerpt in my confutation on schizoprenia), Peter clarifies that he tries to speak the others’ language and cite their literature. To give an example, he cites a representative of the Freudian school even though, PERSONALLY, HE REJECTS FREUDIAN PSYCHOLOGY COMPLETELY! In Swami Vivekananda’s parlance this is called speaking to the Hindu as a Hindu, to the Christian as a Christian, to the Buddhist as a Buddhist, to the Muslim as a Muslim. Hallo everybody! Wasn’t “supramental plasticity” the Mother’s favourite flower? Alas, so badly missing here (forget the supramental).

This highly critical comment, in the introduction to Heehs’ compilation/text book Indian religions: a historical reader of spiritual expression and experience, p. 28, not only clarifies Peter’s stand regarding Sri Ramakrishna, but it is also the only time he has ever discussed J. Kripal in print. We read in the Wikipedia, “In 2002, religious scholar Peter Heehs wrote that there is no direct evidence of homosexuality in the Kathamrta or "anywhere else", and Kripal himself admits that his interpretations are often "speculative". Heehs wrote that the "sensationalism" of Kripal's approach "vitiates the overall value of his book..." It is noteworthy to highlight that, in that same book, Heehs has published nineteen pages of extracts from the major works on Sri Ramakrishna (published by the Sri Ramakrishna Mission), and where there is no discussion about Sri Ramakrishna's sexuality or lack of it.

To clear the stable once for all apropos Sri Ramakrishna, here is another piece of information. Amiya Sen was a highly praised scholar of 19th century India, especially Bengal, with no connection with the Sri Ramakrishna Mission organization. Although not a ‘devotee’, he had great respect for Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda; he wrote or edited a number of books on the Master and his great successor, including Ramakrishna Paramhansa, the Sadhaka of Dakshineswar, and His Words – two books that Peter Heehs has reviewed at the request of the editor of The Book Review of Delhi. This makes the systematic campaign of defamation even more absurd. It was Peter, a Westerner, who was requested to comment – not some chattering box posing as guru, not “Prof” (don’t forget the Prof!) “Kamal Das”!
