Why is he insulting you

from aurosatya vrata satyavrata54@gmail.com to tusarnmohapatra@gmail.com date 1 April 2010 14:01 subject Reg. ongoing discussion on Sri Aurobindo's Savitri
Dear Mr. Mohapatra,
I have been silently following the discussion/dispute over the editing of the Savitri and am rather amused.

Isn't it fantastic that characters such as Mr. RY Deshpande declare that the 1950-51 edition is 'sacred', that some others like Mr. Bijan Ghose swear that the 1954 edition is the only 'original' version and that some others have even dragged the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust to court for years in order to try and establish that the 1970 edition was the only authentic version? Isn't it even more amusing that each of these persons considers anyone and everyone who does not agree to his exclusive views as confirmed imbeciles?

With whom and where lies the imbecility in all of this? Who are the real morons?

Is it the business of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust to satisfy every imbecile demand of characters who can show scarce respect to, let alone trust the good-will of honorable people such as Dr. Nirodbaran, Sri Aurobindo's scribe who spent his life at the service of his master?

If every new edition of the Mahabharata or the Ramayana had to satisfy each and every imbecile or get mired in controversies, our entire nation would have been by now a nation of imbeciles. Thankfully it is not and the Spirit of great Spiritual works such as the Mahabharata, Ramayana and the Savitri can continue to flow and feed the soul of our nation.

Therefore, in the larger interest of this nation and the world, let the RYDs, BGs and other similar characters fight it out among themselves, either through their blogs or even physically if they so wish. Why do they want to drag the SAA Trust and other well-wishers of Sri Aurobindo and his institution into their own personal mess?

A cause of concern of course is the incoherence of this Mr. RY Deshpande. Neither you nor Mr. Satheesh have "trashed" the 1950-51 edition. All that is done is to understandably treat it as an edition of the Savitri, just like there are other editions - nothing more, nothing less! So why is he accusing you for something that you have not done and additionally, why is he insulting you for it? He may be upset with Mr. Satheesh for his abrasive language, but he should not be fabricating accusations to argue against what are reasonable arguments. And what does the Savitri have to do with The Lives of Sri Aurobindo or some "Darshan message" for the 21st February issued by the SA Ashram?

It would seem that this Mr. RYD is drifting towards the absurd and being drawn towards the realms of the mentally deranged...because I too just don’t get what he is up to. Best Regards. S.

Dear Prof,
Strange things are happening really, calling someones imbeciles, morons and the like. To me changing Sri Aurobindo is unauthorised crime- Mother did not allow, what of an author like Sri Aurobindo. He wrote stressing some words with capital words, at his time one would write and he too wrote, - whereas one comma would do but as at that time or as he felt he wrote, we have to read him as he did. Whatever ITES one may belong to he has no right to change Sri Aurobindo, specially when he is no longer there to see. Any one competent to read and understand Sri Aurobindo or is a true devotee of him has right to comment. Another very important point is that we do not have the original MS with us- we do not know what is its condition now. If that is available and there may be a word by word verification, comparing other things like punctuation of all the editions, one can point out which edition is more authentic. Generally it may be said that what the Mother had seen was better than what it became later.
With good will to all- Aju Mukhopadhyay

Thanks Mr. Tusar Mohapatra-
Actually the concrete and desired work is to work hard to find the truth of changes and then go forward with reference to original writings.
Best, Aju Mukhopadhyay
